My Story

This year I’m taking part in the One Million Step Challenge to support people affected by diabetes. If you know me, you’ll know this is a big deal, primarily for two reasons.... 1. I’m a type one diabetic 2. I’m a lazy slob.... :) I’ve been living with type one diabetes for almost 25 years. That means I’ve had well over 30,000 injections, around 18,250 finger pricks and spent over 100 hours at diabetic check ups, not to mention the overnight hospital stays!! The last few years have been a bit of a roller coaster to say the least..... Going through pregnancy and raising a toddler whilst closely managing my diabetes was harder than I ever expected... I’ve been introduced to some life changing medication...spent a fortune on said medication and most recently, been lucky enough to be funded for some of that medication... I developed diabetic retinopathy and as a result, I have had countless sessions of laser treatment on both eyes. Whilst receiving treatment, my right eye haemorrhaged which meant I had to have a vitrectomy operation to stop me from going blind. The operation was successful but caused me to lose partial vision permanently.... But through thick and thin my overall control of my diabetes has improved and I am determined for it to continue to do so. Through my journey and Diabetes UK, I’ve met some amazing people, support networks and learnt so so much. I will forever be grateful. It’s my time to give something back. There’s no cure for Diabetes... yet. But the technologies are growing rapidly and every penny counts to improve people living with diabetes lives Help me, help Diabetes UK kick Diabetes butt! There are 4.7 million people living with diabetes in the UK, the complications of which lead to over 500 premature deaths every week. So, I’m stepping towards a healthier me, and a better future for people living with diabetes. Support my challenge by hitting the donate button on my profile page. I AM GREATER THAN HIGHS AND LOWS I>^v
